Parent Involvement is the foundation of Head Start programs. Several ways in which we involve parents include individual meetings with the Family Community Coordinator prior to entering the program and with the teacher several times during the school year.
These can be at the center or at the family's home. Parents are welcome and encouraged to volunteer in their child's classroom.
We strive for an "open door" policy, which means a parent is welcome in the classroom at any time of the day. Their time in the classroom does not need to be scheduled ahead of time. In the same turn, parents are not required to put time in the classroom.
Some parents are not comfortable or do not have the time available during the day. Those parents are encouraged to complete home activities with their child, or help assist the teachers in laundry, cutting, folding, etc. to earn In-Kind for the program. |
