Health Requirements are an important aspect of the program ensuring the safety of all children in the program. Once a child is accepted into Head Start, parents must meet three requirements before the child actually begins the program.
- Prior to attending the classroom, all parents are required to supply a copy of their child's current immunization record. At a minimum, the child must have at least one of each required immunizations. We will work with families attempting to have their child caught up on immunizations during the school year.
- Parents must also provide documentation of their child's current physical. If the physical was done but not all components completed, Head Start will arrange for vision, hearing or blood pressure screens to be given during the school year.
- Children must also have a scheduled dental appointment.
Parents are also required to follow through with all referrals made by the dentist or doctor and complete all treatment, if necessary. The Family Community Coordinator is here to assist families in seeking medical providers, making appointments, and even helping to arrange transportation to appointments if necessary. If a parent doesn't complete the requirements prior to start-up, their child loses their slot and it is given to the next family on the waiting list. Likewise, if a parent fails to comply with certain health requirements during the school year in regards to immunizations and current physicals, the child can be excluded from the classroom until the requirements are met. Potentially, the child could be dropped from the program if these are not met within a certain time frame.
